Skolt Saami Cultural Foundation has published a Skolt Saami wall calendar for 2026

Skolt Saami Cultural Foundation’s Skolt Saami wall calendar for 2026 has been published. Skolt Saami Cultural Foundation would like to thank Antti Pentikäinen, the Oulu Orthodox Diocese Foundation and the Sámi Museum Siida, who have made the publication of the calendar possible. The calendar was produced with funds from the Antti Pentikäinen birthday collection and with the support of the Oulu Orthodox Diocese Foundation.

The theme of the 2026 wall calendar is repatriation, and the calendar was produced in collaboration with the Sámi Museum Siida. Skolt Saami Cultural Foundation was responsible for the printing, layout and Skolt Saami language content of the calendar and will be responsible for the distribution of the calendar. Siida has produced the photo content and texts for the calendar related to the images in the calendar, as well as the accompanying text about repatriation and its significance. The Skolt Saami objects or collections of objects for the calendar were selected together with the Sámi Museum Siida based on the proposals of Skolt Saami Cultural Foundation. In addition to Siida’s texts, the calendar contains text content from Skolt Saami Cultural Foundation and Skolt Saami Siida Administration. The images selected for the calendar reflect both Skolt Saami history and the richness of craftsmanship.

The calendar is planned to be distributed in Sevettijärvi, Nellim, Ivalo, Helsinki, Rovaniemi, by post and at the Äʹvv Skolt Sámi Museum in Neiden. In addition, calendars will be sold by Skolt Saami Cultural Foundation and a limited number by the Sámi Museum Siida in Inari. You can buy a calendar from the Skolt Saami Cultural Foundation either on site (20 € / piece) or by ordering a calendar to be mailed to your home (20 € / piece + shipping costs). The proceeds will be used to support the activities of Skolt Saami Cultural Foundation.

As usual, the calendar includes Orthodox holidays, Lutheran holidays, and Saami and Finnish flag days for 2026. Skolt Saami name days are in the calendar according to the Orthodox name day calendar. As last year, the calendar includes information on the phases of the moon and a fish calendar that tells you the best times to catch a fish. The movement of many fish has also been found to follow the cycle of the phases of the moon.

The wall calendar is a gift to the Skolt Saami people and is therefore free of charge for them.
